I Didn’t Know

“I Didn’t Know”

I didn’t know you could say so much with so few words or sound.

I didn’t know what I thought I’d lost you would help to be found.

I didn’t know mothers loved their children more than they loved themselves.

I didn’t know one reads so much that there’s nothing left on shelves.

I didn’t know what a part you would play in my daily life.

I didn’t know the wisdom you’d bequeath to my loving wife.

I didn’t know the meaning of patience until I saw it done.

I didn’t know I could still feel as if I was some mother’s son.

I didn’t know that I’d learn a lesson before we both part,

I didn’t know it would root within me; twain in mind and heart.
